Kelsy Harris, Certified Nurse Midwife
My interest for medicine started at a very young age. My dad is a physician, and I watched him positively impact the lives of others since childhood. I wanted to do that! At age 16, I became a CNA and worked at our local hospital. My favorite part was the birth of a baby! Many mommas let me attend as a “student”. I fell in love.
I received my BSN in 2011 from Creighton University and immediately became a cardiac ICU nurse. I was passionate about caring for the critically ill. Later, I worked for Nebraska Organ Recovery, aiding in the gift of life through the process of organ donation. I enjoyed what I was doing, but something was missing. It was a day I cared for a critically ill pregnant woman that I realized I needed to revisit my love for pregnancy and birth!
I quickly changed roles from the cardiac ICU to labor and delivery – my heart could have exploded with joy. I loved going to work and being a part of something so amazing. I wanted to be more for these women! I wanted to educate women of their choices and empower them. Shortly thereafter, I started my training to become a Certified Nurse Midwife at Frontier Nursing University. I graduated in 2017 and started my dream job with this amazing group at Mid-City OBGYN.
I feel incredibly honored to provide care to women in their transitions through life. And though my path was not direct getting here, I am so fortunate to have had the work and life experiences to know that caring for you is the greatest gift.
Above all, I am the proud momma of my four amazing boys, Carter, Burke, Beau & Kingston and wife to my wonderful husband, Larry. Carter and Burke are twins and Beau is our tag-a- long! My family is equally energetic about my life as a midwife and always understanding if mom has to run off for a delivery.
